Will Pass Citizenship Amendment Bill, Throw Out Intruders: Amit Shah In Kolkata

People of Bengal are being misled on the issue of NRC: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 1st, 2019 said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill which will give Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Christian settlers citizenship.

Addressing a public-awakening programme on NRC in Kolkata Shah said, “I appeal to every worker of the party to reach out to every Bengali and explain them the Citizenship Amendment Bill and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).”

He added, “We will ensure that it is implemented in the state, and all intruders are sent back to their right place. The Trinamool Congress did not let the Citizenship Amendment Bill clear Rajya Sabha. And due to this, there are people in our country who are yet to get Indian citizenship.”

It may be mentioned that the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill which evoked massive agitations in Assam including other Northeastern states seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31st, 2014.

It may be mentioned that the Bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha on January 8th, 2019 but lapsed in the Rajya Sabha.

“I want to tell Mamata di that you can stop us as much as you want, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has been accepted by not just India, it has been accepted by the world and by Bengal as well. When Mamata Di (West Bengal Chief Minister) was in Opposition, she asked for these intruders to be removed. She had thrown her shawl on the State Assembly Speaker’s face on this same issue. Now that they’ve become her vote bank, she doesn’t want them to be removed,” he said.

Shah also asked the people of West Bengal to give the BJP a chance to make Bengal Sonar Bangla. Attacking Banerjee, Shah said, “Mamata Di is saying that millions of Hindus will have to leave West Bengal. There is no bigger lie than this. I was to assure the people of Bengal from all communities that nothing of this sort is going to happen.”
