Leader of the Opposition at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia on Tuesday questioned if Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma needs to go into quarantine and also a swab test as the minister was recently seen standing close to a doctor who was tested COVID-19 positive.
Speaking about the COVID-19 issue, Debabrata Saikia said, “We noticed a report that stated a minister along with 20 other members of his house were tested positive for the virus and so all the ministers and officials who had come in contact with the minister had gone into quarantine. By going through this incident, there seems to be a similar case in Assam.’
Saikia added that a doctor in Singimari was tested positive for the virus and two days ago, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen standing with him at the hospital without maintaining social distancing.
Saikia added, “In this situation, I would question the health department if the Himanta Biswa Sarma will be quarantined or not as this seems to be a serious concern.”
He added that there needs to be a test on the Health Minister as well because he had been in close contact with a person tested positive of the virus.
Saikia also alleged that apart from Himanta Biswa Sarma, there are many politicians who have been violation the protocols of the COVID-19 pandemic and all these persons need to be checked.
