    Watch Video: Gangtok Enjoys Snowy Sunday After 15 Years

    The increase in the minimum temperature is due to the cyclonic circulation over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh

    In a very rare occurrence, Gangtok and surrounding areas on January 5th, 2020 witnessed a light snowfall. Surrounding areas to Gangtok like Vajra, Tathangchen, Ganesh Tok, Chandmari and Tashi View Point received light snowfall in the noon hours.

    This snowfall might bring relief from intense cold which is prevailing in Sikkim from January 4th, 2020. Already many parts of North Sikkim and East Sikkim has received heavy snowfall on January 4th, 2020.

    Meanwhile, Director, GN Raha of India Meteorological Department, Sikkim informed that the increase in the minimum temperature is due to the cyclonic circulation over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh and it will remain till January 5th, 2020.

    While asking about th light snowfall, Director Raha informed as far as snowfall in Gangtok witnessed similar snowfall 15 years back.

    Even though the tourists are rejoicing the cold weather but locals are facing difficulties to carry out their daily task and very less vehicular movement were also observed in capital Gangtok.
