    Use Of Smartphones, Social Media Banned Within Naval Areas

    The Indian Navy has issued an order to ban the use of smartphones and other social media applications including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other messengers at all naval bases, warships. The order has been issued on December 27th, 2019.

    The order came in the wake of the arrest of the seven navy personnel for allegedly leaking information to a spy racket having links with Pakistan.

    The Andhra Pradesh police has earlier informed that they busted a spying racket in the Indian Navy and arrested as many as seven personnel including a hawala operator for passing secret information to Pakistan handlers about the locations of ships and submarines. Based on reliable information a joint operation–code-named as ‘Dolphin’s Nose’ conducted by Andhra Pradesh Intelligence wing, Central Intelligence agencies and Naval intelligence.

    This step has been attributed following reports that the enemy had targeted the personnel using the social media network and allegedly offered proposals to elicit operational information.
