In a joint operation, the Athani police and Bandihana police in Western Assam’s Dhubri district arrested two youths in connection with the killing of 28-year-old jeweller Aktar Hussain Mulla. The accused are 22-year-old Ramjan Ali son of Umed Ali of Sand Block under Bandihana Police Station and 20-year-old Alam Sheikh son of Bahadur Ali of Masipara village.

“The arrestees have confessed during interrogation about how they executed the killing of Aktar. An amount of Rs six lakh was recovered from the possession of the accused,” police said. Based on the statements of the accused, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the district administration conducted rescue operation in the Brahmaputra river.

As per information, on September 7^th, 2019, Ramjan and Alam had taken Aktar to a remote char area through a mechanized country boat luring him to purchase gold at lower rate and had allegedly killed. The incident took place at Piyajbari village under Gouripur Police Station in Western Assam’s Dhubri district. Later, the family members of the victim had lodged a missing complaint at the Atahni Police Outpost.
