    Tiger Cub In Bengaluru Named After Star Sprinter Hima Das

    The Bannerghatta Biological Park management in Bengaluru has named a six-month-old tigress after the star Indian athlete Hima Das to honour her five back-to-back golds within a month.

    The cub Hima was released into the Safari zone on July 28th, 2019 evening along with three other cubs ahead of the International Tiger Day which is observed every year on July 29th, 2019.

    Hima won her first international gold on July 2nd, 2019 at Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland at her first competitive 200-meter of the year. She clinched her second gold on July 7th, 2019 at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland for the women’s 200-meter race.

    Her third gold was at the Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic on July 13th, 2019 with a timing of 23.43 seconds and subsequently, she achieved her fourth gold at the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic on July 17th, 2019. Getting back on track to her 400-m best, Hima won her fifth gold of the month in the Czech Republic on July 20th, 2019, with a season-best time of 52.09 seconds.

    It may be mentioned that on the occasion of the International Tiger Day, a group of eight tigers was released into the wild for the public display including a mother and seven cubs. The tigers were released by Ravindra DS, Principal chief conservator of forests.
