The sleuths of Assam police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on November 1st, 2019 arrested three contractors from the Udalguri district in connection with the 2012 suicide case of Irrigation department official Mathura Chandra Nath and the multi-crore scam.
As per reports, the CID team based on reliable information launched a search operation and arrested the trio Baglali, Sutradhar, and Khatuwal. They are currently under interrogation in an undisclosed location.
The three of them have been alleged to offer Rs 13 lakh bribe and pressurized Nath to pass a Rs 3 crore 12 lakh contract in the Irrigation department back in 2011. They have also been alleged to be backed by former Congress legislator Enamul Haque Laskar who was arrested last week by the CID.
It may be mentioned that the incident dates back to November 26th, 2012. The state irrigation employee’s suicide in his residence leaving a 22-page suicide note mentioning Laskar’s name had left shockwaves in the region. During that time Laskar was working as the OSD of the state irrigation department.
The incident came to light after the local police started an investigation and later the Gauhati High Court took suo moto cognizance ordered the CID to take up the case.
Till date, a total of 8 persons have been arrested by the CID in relation to the case.
