House concerts are the new
space where the artistes get a platform to perform live before a select,
attentive audience
Guwahati, June 26, 2019
With an aim of taking original
art by upcoming local artistes to newer heights, on June 21st, 2019, which
happens to be the World Music Day, Purple Carrot Organizers came up with the
first session of a house concert titled ‘Coconut Tree Sessions’.
Curated by Chiranjib Deka, the first session boasted of a line up like Dr Dope, Moniraj Hazarika and Ipshita Bharali, Lady Midday, Rinku Boro, Vibgyor and Malhaar. The event was organised at Purple Studios at Kumarpara Panchali. The idea is to create an alternate space for musicians to showcase their original music pieces.

The venue was decorated with
colourful ribbons falling from a centre pole.
It may be mentioned that the concept of a house concert or home concert
has gained popularity in the last few years in the metros. Such a musical
concert or performance art that is presented in someone’s home or apartment or
private space is a cheap and easy way to access high-quality live music.
Chiranjib said, “It was a crowd-funded event where friends and family equally contributed. We also installed a wall graffiti by city-based artists Debulin Basumatary and Rahul Saikia.”

“We were supported by Aisle on
Grasses’, ‘Panda Rides’, ‘Shout_Art’ and ‘Arcane Studios’. The core idea was to
promote original art in any form and to promote the artistes who cannot play
their original compositions in proper venues. In our session, the artistes had
the freedom of playing their own compositions and it was a successful event,”
Deka added.
