After three days of continuous protests by the Sitajakhala Dugdha Utpadak Samabai Samiti Limited (SDUSSL), a cooperative society of dairy producers, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on August 19th, 2019 ordered State Cooperation Minister, Rihon Daimari to hold discussions with the protesting dairy farmers to reach a conclusion.
The cooperative society of dairy producers, dumped over 1,000 litres of milk into the Killing river in Jagiroad in Assam’s Morigaon district on August 16th, 2019 to raise their voices against the CM Sonowal-led-Assam government over the alleged irregularities and syndicate plaguing the dairy sector.
CM Sonowal also asked Daimari to take appropriate action and take up the issue with the Morigaon Deputy Commissioner.
It may be mentioned here that the body launched a Chintan Dharmaghat on August 16th, 2019 and submitted an eight-point memorandum to Sonowal raising demand to withdraw its hands-off policy on the dairy industry.
