Shops In Kamrup Metro To Open On Rotation Basis During COVID-19 Lockdown

Malls and market complexes including the GMC markets will remain closed

Shops in market areas of Kamrup Metro will be allowed to open twice a week on a rotation basis in each locality during the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M), Biswajit Pegu, stated this in a meeting held with members of market associations of the district and planned out the details of opening the shops in the district.

It was decided that the building owners and market associations will decide the rotation pattern of the establishments and will open one-third shops at a time. All the shops will remain closed on Sunday.

The pattern of the rotation will have to be followed by retailers and wholesalers with the same guidelines. Anyone found violating these guidelines will be charged under the Disaster Management Act. Their licence may also be suspended.

The administration has further made it clear that social distancing, masks and sanitizers are compulsory at all the permitted establishments and there should also be arrangements for screening people with the thermal scanners.

The order by the administration further states that apart from these, the malls, market complexes including the GMC markets will remain closed in the district. Even the offices that are located in the market complexes will have to be remained shut.

It may be mentioned that there are over 65,000 retailers and 12,000 wholesalers which are registered with the Guwahati Metropolitan Corporation.
