Supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call to observe ‘Janata Curfew’ on March 22nd, 2020, the Assam Chamber of Commerce has decided to observe ‘Vyapar Bandh’ on March 23rd, 2020.
Addressing a press meet in Guwahati on March 21st, 2020, Rupam Goswami, chairman, Assam Chamber of Commerce requested all business stores/premises to remain closed from 6 am to 9 pm on March 23rd, 2020.
“We discourage any type of bandh. But we all know that Assam is vulnerable from people who are coming from different places to our State,” Goswami said.
He added, “It might incur a loss to our business community but it will help us to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The loss will comparatively be small than the cause we are contributing to.”
Modi appealed the people to impose a self curfew from 7 am to 9 pm on March 22nd, 2020 to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
He also appealed to all Indians to take part in thanking healthcare providers by clapping from their homes on March 22nd, 2020 at 5 pm.
All restaurants, dhabas, sweets shops, cafes, coffee house and fast food joints have been asked to remain closed on March 22nd, 2020 in Assam as support to ‘Janata Curfew’ as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of deadly novel coronavirus.
Novel coronavirus or Covid-19 has claimed over 9,000 lives across the world and has affected at least 2 lakh people across the globe. As per the latest data, India has registered 298 cases with four deaths.
However, no positive coronavirus case has been detected in Assam so far.
