Shocking! Jamia Protesters Release CCTV Footage Of Delhi Cops Attacking Students In Library

On December 15th, 2019, an anti-CAA protest turned violent after protesters allegedly pelted stones at police and set public buses on fire

Two months after the alleged police brutality inside New Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University campus, a fresh CCTV footage has emerged showing policemen beating up students.

The alleged incident took place on the day violence broke out at the Jamia campus after a protest march against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The Jamia Coordination Committee, a group of alumni and students, tweeted a 49-second clip CCTV footage on February 15th, 2020 that appears to show Delhi Police personnel thrashing students in the university’s library on the evening of December 15th, 2019.

The video carries the watermark of the Mehfil-e-Jamia Twitter account. The Delhi police have repeatedly denied the incident. The Delhi Police is yet to issue a statement in this regard. A law student had lost his eye in the attack, as per reports.

On December 15th, 2019, an anti-CAA protest turned violent after protesters allegedly pelted stones at police and set public buses on fire. Later, the students alleged that the police entered their library and beat up the students, who weren’t protesting.

The video clip shows students sitting at Jamia university’s Old Reading Hall (M Phil Section). Policemen in riot gear suddenly barge into the room and start baton-charging students as they look for cover.

In sharply-worded tweets, the Congress attacked Delhi Police over the fresh CCTV footage. ” See how the Delhi Police is indiscriminately beating students. A boy is reading a book but a cop continues to beat him. The Home Minister and Delhi Police officials lied that they had not beaten anyone by entering the library,”senior party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote in Hindi.

Congress’s Shashi Tharoor also sought action against policemen seen in the video. “CCTV footage has emerged showing police assaulting Jamia students without provocation. Horrifying. Exemplary punishment must be levied on these lawless policemen,” Tharoor tweeted.
