Continuing his domination in boxing, the Asian Games gold Medallist from Assam, Shiva Thapa won gold in the 4th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships held at the Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology on October 10th, 2019. He won the medal under 63 kg category.
Thapa grabbed the gold medal after defeating Services’ Akash Sangwan (4-1) on the concluding day of the championship. In a spectacular match, the two-time Olympian started slowly and took some time to gauge his opponent’s strategy but once he settled in, he dominated the proceedings and controlled the bout.
Thapa participated in the 2012 London Olympics and was the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics. He is the third Indian to clinch Gold at the Asian Games. Shiva is also the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
On the other hand, Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg) and PL Prasad (52kg) also won gold medals on the last day of the Championships.
