    Several Injured In Clash Between Police And Protesters in Assam’s Dima Hasao

    The Indigenous People's Forum called off the strike demanding bifurcation of Dima Hasao district after receiving state government’s assurance to discuss the matter

    At least seven people sustained injuries during clashes between the security personnel and protesters in Assam’s Dima Hasao on February 11th, 2020, during the ongoing strike by the Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF).

    The clashes took place at around 10 am in Haflong between the protesters and police personnel. The bandh supporters also damaged motorcycles and several vehicles and also attacked the police personnel. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical assistance.

    IPF, a non-Dimasa organisation called an indefinite strike in the district today demanding a separate autonomous district with different autonomous councils for non-Dimasas in the hilly district.

    The IPF, later, called off the strike demanding bifurcation of Dima Hasao district after receiving state government’s assurance to discuss the matter.

    Speaking to the media person, president of the organisation, L Luki said, “The state government has agreed to discuss the matter and hence we have called off the indefinite strike.”
