    Sahitya Akademi Winning Novelist Purabi Bormudoi Passes Away

    Guwahati: Noted novelist and Sahitya Akademi awardee Purabi Bormudoi breathed her last on July 15th, 2019 after a prolonged illness.

    The Assamese novelist and short-story writer was born in Deori village at Tezpur in Sonitpur district of Assam on May 8th, 1950. She married educationist Ananda Bormudoi in 1975.

    Bormudoi, a former professor at Dibrugarh University, was conferred with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi in 2007 for her novel Santanukulanandan. She also conferred with Prabina Saikia Award in 2006 and Assam Valley Literary Award in 2007.

    Bormudoi authored several novels which include Gojraj, Prem Aru BonditwoRupowali Noi, Xonowali Ghat, Xoponor Ghor, Ghoror Xopun, Eta Alibator Itikotha and Baghjal, Baghshal Aru Manuh.

    Public and people from various walks of life paid their last respects to the celebrated novelist. The author has donated her body, as per information available.
