The Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewage Board will resume water supply in the city from August 12th, 2019 as more than 60 per cent of repair work of the raw water pumps has been completed.
It may be mentioned, on August 8th, 2019, the Board issued a notice that water supply will be interrupted in the areas covered by Zoo Road Water Supply Scheme which connects one the busiest-posh roads of the city as one of the two raw water pumps broke down due to a technical snag.
Areas like Ganeshguri, Christian Basti, Rajgarh, Rukminigaon, Srinagar, Tarun Nagar, Ambikagiri Nagar, Hengrabari, Rupnagar, Japorigag, Bhaskarnagar and Sarumotoriaand Jatia were severely hit by the water crisis.
Nearly 7,000 households and at least 70,000 people have been affected due to the breakdown. After completion of work, the second raw pump will also be repaired.
The water board in its notice had mentioned that only one pump was in place and water was being supplied intermittently to the areas covered by ZRWSS. Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to the people to use water judiciously.
