    Radha Kumari Rape-Murder Verdict: Prime Accused Awarded Death Sentence

    The District and Sessions Judge, Sivasagar SK Poddar on October 3rd, 2019 awarded death sentence to the prime accused Bikash Das in the sensational Radha Kumari rape-murder case that had triggered a huge sensation across the state.

    He was convicted with death sentence under section 302 of the IPC and has been remanded to the Sivasagar district jail to serve the remaining part of the sentence.

    The court has also given 30 days time frame to the convict Bikash Das to make a final appeal infront of the High Court. On September 27th, 2019, the sessions court had convicted Das and acquitted Bipin Pande in the case.

    It may be mentioned that on July 10th, 2018, Assam Agriculture University student Radha Kumari (21) was raped and strangled to death in the Tinsukia-Rangia passenger train. Her body was recovered from a toilet of the train at Simaluguri Railway Station. She had boarded the train in Sivasagar to visit her uncle at Furkating in Golaghat district.

    Later, the railway police registered a case (No 6/2018) under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code in the matter and arrested both the accused in cooperation with the Dibrugarh and Sivasagar police on July 12th, 2019, night.
