As many as 1,818 persons have been fined for spitting and littering the railway premises this year till date by the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway. An amount of Rs 3,65,895 has been collected as fine so far, according to an official release.
The NF Railway is one of the 18 railway zones in India. Headquartered in Maligaon, Guwahati, it is responsible for rail operations in the entire Northeast and parts of West Bengal and Bihar.
Sharing a photograph of a train compartment littered with plastic bottles, disposable plates and cups, the organisation appealed passengers to keep railway compartments clean. In a sarcastic way, the organisation asked on Twitter, “Why do some people want to pay a fine rather than correct themselves….? Please help us keep railways clean.”
On the other hand, a total of 806 people have been detained this year for needlessly pulling chains and delaying trains.
