Over 100 Assam Teachers Write To President Asking For Mercy Killing

The government has not done anything to regularise the appointments of the teachers of the Lower Primary schools: Basanta Neog

Over 100 teachers have sought President Ram Nath Kovind’s permission for death through mercy killing as they have been deprived of their salaries for the last eight years. The teachers dashed off a letter to the President of India and the Assam Governor in the matter.

It needs to be mentioned that over 1500 teachers are there in Assam’s Sivasagar district, who have been deprived of their salaries for the last eight years.

Speaking to the media persons, Basanta Neog, general secretary of the association, said, “We have not witnessed any move of the government in solving the matter in the last eight years. The government has not done anything to regularise the appointments of the teachers of the Lower Primary schools. Around 12000 teachers across the state have been deprived of their salaries.”

On January 6th, 2020, the Sivasagar teachers association had written to the state Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the then Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya to come up with a solution to the problem within January 20th, 2020.

“Be it previous Congress government or the present BJP-led state government – all are least bothered in solving the issue,” Neog said.
