    Outrage Over Alleged Elephant Killing In Kerala

    She was pregnant and was allegedly fed a pineapple filled with crackers in it

    With the death of the pregnant wild elephant in Silent Valley Forest in Kerela due to an alleged act of “human cruelty”, social media was sparked with outrage and anger.

    On Tuesday, it was reported that a wild elephant which was pregnant and was expecting to give birth to a calf in the next 18 months was killed by some locals of the area.

    The elephant trusting the human and being in hunger had eaten a pineapple given to it by some locals. The jumbo did not know that this pineapple would be her final meals as it allegedly filled the pineapple with firecrackers.

    The elephant on putting the fruit in its mouth witnessed an explosion in her mouth which had severely injured her jaw and mouth as a whole. Due to this she was unable to eat and knowing seemed to be in deep pain. The elephant then walked down a water body nearby and in a few hours, she died standing in the Velliyar River.

    The elephant had died on May 27 and it came to light only on June 2 after forest officials shared the information about the incident on social media.

    Forest officials are now on an operation to nab the culprits connected to the incident. The persons responsible for the incident are caught the will be prosecuted and punished for “hunting” the elephant.

    The incident was first posted on social media after Mohan Krishnan, a forest officer. He wrote a note with a description of the incident. Following which, social media users started an outrage on the incident.

    Krishnan on his post wrote, “When we saw her she was standing in the river, with her head dipped in the water. She had a sixth sense that she was going to die and so she took the Jalasamadhi in the river in a standing position.”

    He also posted the photo of the elephant standing in the river water which was clicked while he was on a mission to rescue the helpless creature.
