Guwahati: Congress leader Bhubaneswar Kalita, who has resigned from Rajya Sabha on August 5th, 2019, is going to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claimed former three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Addressing a press meet here on August 6th, 2019, Gogoi said, “Kalita is an opportunist and power-hungry person. He is going to join the BJP, if not, I am ready to publicly apologise. He has given a whimsical reason to quit Rajya Sabha. He could have discussed the matter with the party members.”
In a letter circulating online, Kalita stated that he is resigning over his party’s stand on the government’s move to scrap Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. He further mentioned in the letter that the Congress party was committing suicide by opposing the abrogation of Article 370.
Gogoi said that the Central government committed a ‘historic blunder’ by scrapping the abrogation of this Article.
