    Now, Meghalaya Secretariat Turns Disabled-Friendly

The Meghalaya Secretariat has installed energy-efficient and environment-friendly LED lights within the building

To help differently-abled visitors, non-slip yellow highlighted flooring has been installed in the Meghalaya Secretariat. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to microblogging site Twitter to share the news.

Sangma also informed that the Meghalaya Secretariat has installed energy-efficient and environment-friendly LED lights within the building. The LED lights can save around 90 per cent of electricity as compared to incandescent lights and 50 per cent as compared to CFLs. It is said, the LED lights contribute towards reducing what is called as’ light pollution’.

The facility for the ‘divyang’ (handicapped) has received positive and encouraging reviews. Sangma has earlier said that the government will make the Meghalaya Secretariat a zero-waste area.

In the recent past, the Chief Minister urged upon the people to shun single-use plastic and opt for sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives to support the fight against climate change. He has also launched a campaign called #ShillongMyPassion in the state’s capital Shillong to beat the plastic menace.
