The All Assam Students’ Union general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi on January 19th, 2020, raised questions about Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s degrees.
Speaking to the media persons, Gogoi said, “In the affidavit filed in 2006, he mentioned that he pursued MA in Political Science and LLB in 1994 while in the affidavit filed in 2016, he mentioned that he pursued MA in 1994 and LLB in 1995. This is very confusing.”
Besides, Gogoi, while slamming Sarma over the Citizenship Amendment Act issue, said, “If Sarma has the courage than he should answer the questions we raised regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act.”
While requesting the minister not to indulge in diverting the issue, Gogoi said, “People can understand things better. You come out and answer our questions.”
He further said that the minister should challenge the Supreme Court of India instead of the AASU. He said the students’ body and other supporting organisations will continue its fight for the interest of the people.
Moreover, talking about forming the new political party, Gogoi said, “It is people’s opinion to form the new political party. The present situation of the state forced the people to think for an alternate way to safeguard the land, language and the culture.”
