Union External Affairs Minister V Muraleedharan on July 28th, 2019 said that the Centre will facilitate visa processing in the northeastern region for those who wish to travel abroad.
The Union Minister said that the ministry has come up with this as the Northeastern people face a big challenge while getting visas as they are bound to travel to Kolkata whenever they plan to travel outside India.
The countries for which the centre will open their visa facilitation centres in the Northeast are yet to be announced. At present, only Bhutan and Bangladesh have their consulates in the region.
The Centre is also planning to have Videsh Bhawan in all the State capitals for the smooth functioning of Ministry of External Affairs.
Muraleedharan also visited Shillong, Meghalaya on July 28th, 2019. He planted a sapling of Cherry blossom tree at Passport Seva Kendra, Shillong on ‘World Nature Conservation Day’.
