Amidst reports that the government would fund the travel expenses of people who visit at least 15 tourist spots in the country in a year, the Ministry of Tourism on February 3rd, 2020 stated that there is no such scheme for funding the travel expenses of tourists under the campaign.
“It is to clarify that the Ministry of Tourism has no scheme for funding the travel expenses of tourists for visiting destinations in the country under the Dekho Apna Desh Campaign,” according to a PIB statement.

Earlier, Union Tourism Minister Prahalad Patel Singh was quoted by several media as saying, “The tourism ministry will fund the travel expenses of tourists who visit 15 destinations in the country in a year and submit the photos on our website.”
On National Tourism Day, celebrated on January 24th, 2020, the Tourism ministry started the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign asking Indians to take a pledge to visit at least 15 different tourism locations in India by the year 2022.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also urged the people to visit more domestic tourist destinations to boost the local economy.
