No Roads, Woman Delivers Baby On River Bank In Nagarbera

The incident took place in DBRP 'paarghat' when the woman was on her way to a hospital in Nagarbera

In yet another case of poor road connectivity, a woman delivered a baby girl near a riverbank in Rangeswari village of Kamrup district on October 24th, 2019. The incident took place in DBRP paarghat when the woman was on her way to a hospital in Nagarbera.

As per reports, the village lacks concrete roads and bhut bhuti (mechanized boats) services. “Today morning when she went into labour, we immediately started preparations to rush her to the hospital. As we were waiting for a boat near the river on a bamboo ramp, she complained about being in tremendous pain and delivered the baby then and there,” a local said.

“Wasting no time, the people quickly arranged for another boat and rushed her to the Nagarbera primary health centre. I don’t know when the government and the administration will look into our woes. The communication problems are becoming unbearable for us,” said another local.

Currently, the woman and the baby are undergoing treatment in the Nagarbera primary health centre.
