    No More Gutka, Pan Masala In Assam

    The ban is for a period of one year

    The Assam government has banned manufacture, distribution, sale, transportation, display of gutka and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine. The ban is for a period of one year under clause (a) of Sub-section 2 of Section 30 of Food Safety and Security Act, 2006.

    According to a government notification signed by Commissioner of Food Safety, Assam, the prohibitions have been made under the regulations of 2,3,4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations 2011 of the Food Safety & Standards Act.

    “In pursuance of Regulation of 2,3,4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulation, 2011, the manufacture, storage, transportation, display, distribution or sale of gutka, pan masala or any chewing material containing tobacco or nicotine as ingredients available in the market, are hereby prohibited in the state of Assam for a period of one year under clause (a) of Sub-section 2 of Section 30 of Food Safety and Security Act, 2006 in the interest of public health with immediate effect,” the notification read.
