A Delhi court on March 5th, 2020, issued a fresh death warrant against the four death row convicts of the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case. The convicts will be hanged on March 20th, 2020 at 5:30 am.
The execution date was fixed by Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana after the Delhi government told the court that the convicts have exhausted all their legal remedies.
However, the lawyer of the four convicts AP Singh told the court that there was no legal impediment for the court in proceeding to fix the date of execution.
This came a day after President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy plea of one of the fourth death-row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape-and-murder case.
The court had earlier fixed March 3rd, 2020, for the hanging of the four convicts — Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Vinay Kumar Sharma (26), Akshay Kumar Singh (31) and Pawan Gupta. However, it was deferred for the third time in six weeks by a court in after convict Pawan Gupta filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court, which was rejected then and there.
