The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against five accused members of the Islamic terrorist organisation– Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the Barpeta JMB case—RC-14/2019/NIA-GUW in NIA special court, Guwahati.
The charge sheet has been filed against Hafizur Rahman, Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Hafiz Safikul under section 25(1B) if the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The 5 of them allegedly procured weapons and ammunition to commit terrorist acts in pursuance of Jihadi ideology of JMB.
It may be mentioned that based on intelligence inputs the Barpeta Police on September 30th, 2019 conducted a search operation at Hafizur’s house—one country-made revolver, four rounds of live ammunition and Jihadi literature was recovered from his possession and accordingly, a case was registered and based on his inputs the other persons were arrested.
Later the case was handed over to the NIA.
The agency informed that the accused persons have undergone training as JMB cadres in Barpeta at the house of Sahanur Alom and Simulia Madrasa in West Bengal. They were recruited by Alom. He was arrested by the NIA in RC-03/2014/NIA-DLI(Burdwan Blast Case) and has been convicted and sentenced to 8 years of prison.
