Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on September 21st, 2019, directed the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers department to take immediate effective steps for controlling the skyrocketing prices of onion and other essential kitchen commodities.
Sonowal also directed the department to take necessary action to purchase onion from National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) and provide the same at controlled prices in the market.
In a review meeting, Sonowal further directed the department to devise a mechanism to generate self-employment opportunities for the rural youth. He also emphasized to strengthen the public distribution system in the state.
Besides, Sonowal approved a scheme of Rs one lakh each for more than 100 beneficiaries for setting up ‘Amar Dokan on Wheels’ as a step to encourage unemployed youth entrepreneurs of the State.
