11 liquor manufacturing factories in the state will produce 5 lakh litres of hand sanitisers

In the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, Assam Excise Department has started free distribution of hand sanitisers in the state.

Extending support to the call of the state Excise minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Surma Distillery Private Limited, one of the liquor companies allowed permission to prepare hand sanitisers, distributed sanitizers free of cost among the people. This unit of Cachar will produce 1,30,000 bottles of 200ml which will be handed over to NHM, Assam.

The liquor companies will supply more than 5 lakh litres of sanitisers free of cost to the government as a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

“More than 5 lakh litres of sanitisers will be supplied free of cost by liquor companies in the state. As per the demand of the Assam health department, the liquor companies will be supplied 5 crore bottles of 200 ml of sanitisers,” Assam Excise department PRO Sailen Pandey said.

Under an initiative by the Assam excise department, 11 liquor manufacturing factories in the state have already started producing the hand sanitizers according to the guidelines set up by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Essential Commodities Act and Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Pandey said that the main objective of this innovative approach is to curb the menace of fake sanitisers and black-marketing by some evil traders in the state.
