Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 26th, 2020, announced Rs 50 lakh insurance per health care worker as a medical insurance cover for them for three months.
The doctors, paramedics and other healthcare workers associated with the coronavirus treatment will get the insurance cover.
The ministers, while announcing a package of Rs 1.7 lakh crore for the poor, said that ‘no one go hungry’ during the lockdown.
She further said that 80 crore people under the ‘Pradhan mantra Gareeb Kalyan Ana Yojana (food scheme)’ will get 5 kg of wheat/rice for free in addition to what they are already getting. “We will also give one kg of one choice of pulse to each household under this scheme for the next three months. They can take it in two instalments also,” she added.
India is currently under complete lockdown for 21 days. The coronavirus has infected 593 people and claimed 13 lives so far in India while it has infected 4,72,529 people and claimed 21,305 lives globally.
