The prohibition notification issued earlier prohibiting the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of bottled mineral water of Bisleri brand (with added minerals) in Assam, has been withdrawn.
It was found to be unsafe for drinking due to the presence of a high quantity of fluoride, which is harmful to the human body, in the month of September this year. Therefore, the storage, distribution and sale of the product in the markets were prohibited for a period of 30 days.
A government press communiqué stated that this has been done after the fresh Analysis Report issued by the Food Analyst to the Government of Assam as forwarded by the Designated Officer, Kamrup, Guwahati, stated that the sample conforms to the prescribed standards as laid down in Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards & Addictives) Regulations, 2011 with respect to tests carried out.
However the order shall not bar in any way, a Food Safety Officer having jurisdiction to visit the premises of the Food Business Operator manufacturing the aforesaid Brand at any time in future and draw samples for testing and analysis.
