In a first-of-its-kind initiative Max Cement, a leading cement manufacturer from Northeast India will attempt to install the world’s largest diya (lamp) under the banner ‘Ek Diya Prakriti Ke Naam’ temporarily in Dighali Pukhuri park this Diwali.
The earthen diya will be attempted at 8-feet in diameter and 2-feet in height with a capacity of holding about 1000-litre oil. The earthen lamp is expected to make an entry into the Limca Book of Records.
While the city is gripped in festivities, the cement manufacturing company has taken the initiative to promote an eco-friendly Diwali this festive season and also create awareness to reduce the use of single-use plastic.
The diya will be lit on the evening of October 26th, 2019 in presence of various social activists, spiritual leaders, celebrities and other eminent personalities. TIME8 will promote the campaign and motivate people to put one spoon of oil in the diya as a token of commitment against single-use plastic.
Apart from this, Max Cement will also felicitate the officials of the Kamrup (M) District administration and Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDCL) for their recent efforts to promote the cause of reducing the use of single-use plastic in the city including other activists and organizations promoting the cause.
It may be mentioned that the previous largest diya was recorded from Gorakhpur with 3.5-feet in diameter and 1.5-feet in height.
