The Assam government has joined hands with photo and video-sharing social networking platform – Instagram – to promote tourism in the state across the globe. The hashtag #AwesomeAssam was officially unveiled on September 28th, 2019 and multiple photos showcasing Assam’s tourism potential was posted on Instagram.
A workshop was organised in Guwahati for the stakeholders on how to make the best use of the social media platform. Tour operators, hoteliers, homestay owners and other stakeholders to part in the workshop.
Jayanta Malla Baruah, chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation said, “We have stepped into the digital platform to highlight its product as the community is young, thriving and experimental.”
It may be mentioned that the Assam government launched the ‘Awesome Assam’ campaign in 2017 and global icon Priyanka Chopra was appointed as the tourism ambassador. Speaking about the tourism campaign in the last three-year, the ATDC chairman asserted that the government invested a lot in its publicity and promotion to attract tourists globally.
Tara Bedi, public policy and community outreach manager for Instagram who was also present at the event conveyed her pleasure to partner with ATDC.
It may be mentioned that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has pitched for development of monsoon tourism and promotion of homestays in the state to boost tourism.
With the extensive use of digital tools, development of infrastructure and engaging of brand ambassador, the inflow of tourists into Assam has increased.
