    Nagaland Reports First COVID-19 Case; Patient Undergoing Treatment At GMCH

    Nagaland registered its first case of the novel coronavirus; the patient is currently undergoing treatment at GMCH

    Nagaland registered its first case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on April 12th, 2020. According to a tweet by Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the patient was referred from a private hospital in Dimapur to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after he was found to have symptoms of COVID-19.

    Sarma confirmed that the person had tested positive for the COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment.

    With this case, the total number of positive cases in the Northeastern region has spiked to 35 – 29 from Assam, two each from Manipur and Tripura, and one each from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. One COVID-19 positive patient died in Assam on April 10th, 2020.

    Nagaland Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha informed that a total of 74 samples of suspected cases have been sent for testing from the State.

    “The results of 70 samples have been received and they are all negative. The results of the remaining four samples are awaited,” Sinha said.

    The total number of persons who are presently under Home Quarantine are 407, and 28 are at facility quarantine. “The number of persons who are out of home quarantine now is 5459,” he informed.

    “Anyone who is on home quarantine or has come out of quarantine and has developed any signs and symptoms of cough, fever or has difficulty in breathing, the concerned person should contact the State Helpline numbers, 9856071745, 7005539653 of the Health Department,” the Principal Secretary said.

    He also informed that all the schools, colleges, universities, all types of educational institutions, coaching, tuition classes etc shall continue to remain closed throughout Nagaland till further orders.

    The State Government has directed the Nagaland Civil Secretariat and the Directorates in Kohima and Dimapur and all government offices in the districts to resume their functioning with skeletal staff from April 13th, 2020.
