The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on October 31st, 2019 issued a clarification on the Naga settlement issue and said that no final settlement has been made. The MHA also said that no credence should be given to rumours that have been flying around that the final settlement has been done.
The statement read, “It has come to notice of the Government that lots of rumours and misinformation is being spread in media including social media that final Naga settlement has been arrived at and will be announced soon. This is creating anxiety and concern in some parts of the country.”
“It is clarified that before any settlement is arrived at with Naga groups, all stakeholders including States of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh will be duly consulted and their concerns will be taken into consideration,” the statement.
The statement also included that no credence should be given to such rumours and the Government has not arrived at the final settlement on the issue.
It may be mentioned that the Naga peace talks are going on with the Centre where the later has finally decided to accept the demands of the NSCN-IM but with certain conditions. However, there has been no official announcement on the end or final settlement on this regard.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on October 31st, 2019 took to Twitter and wrote that he is looking forward to a new era for the Naga people. He wrote, “Congratulations to Shri RN Ravi, NSCN (IM) & NNPGs for the efforts & sacrifices. Also, appreciation to the civil societies, mass-based organisations, NGOs, churches & the Naga people for the support & prayers. We praise God Almighty & look forward to a new era for the Naga people.”
Also in another tweet, he mentioned that after the completion of the talks, peace will prevail and genuine progress will take place in the state.
