With eyes set on 2020 general election of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Independent MP from Kokrajhar, Naba Kumar Sarania has officially launched his new political party – People Protection Party Asom (PPPA) – in Barpeta district’s Pathsala on September 22nd, 2019.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha MP from Assam had announced to name his newly floated party as ‘BTAD Army’ and emphasised to work for the socio-economic and political developments of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) people.
It may be mentioned that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) are likely to forge an alliance to contest the 2020 general election of the BTC.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary welcomed the new party and stated that the communal differences created on the grounds of ‘Bodo and non-Bodo’ will finally come to an end keeping in view of the name.
“Obodo (non-Bodo) is an unconstitutional word and a few organizations operating in BTAD are trying to create differences among the ethnic communities which is causing hindrance in the development of the region. Hence, forming a political party without mentioning any community is going to help fill the gap,” said Daimary.
Daimary also added that as per the directions for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah, BJP-Asom Gana Parishad-Bodoland Peoples Front would continue to work for the development of BTAD.
