The act approved by President Ram Nath Kovind in August this year, aims at stricter punishment for violating traffic regulations to bring down road accidents and improve the country’s road safety record.

The MV Amendment Act came into force on September 1st, 2019. However, the common man protested against the new traffic fines since day. Complaining that the quantum of the penalties is excessive, commercial vehicle owners and drivers even went on a nationwide strike on September 19th, 2019.
