    MP Nusrat Jahan, Actors Dia, Adil Urge Fans to Extend Support For Assam Flood Victims

    Guwahati: As the flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical affecting over five million people and four million animals, several top politicians and Bollywood superstars have come forward and urged their fans and followers to donate to help the flood victims

    While B-town heart-throb Akshay Kumar on July 17th, 2019 announced to contribute Rs 2 crore to CM’s Flood Relief Fund and Kaziranga Park rescue, track sensation Hima Das also donated half of her month’s salary for the relief of flood victims.

    On July 16th, 2019, the 29-year-old Bengali actress and newly elected Trinamool Congress MP, Nusrat Jahan expressed concern and urged her fans to come in support of the flood victims. The actress turned politician took to the microblogging site Twitter and urged the people to join hands to fight the natural calamity.

    “My heart goes out to every life in Assam. Let’s come together during this situation caused by natural calamities. #StandForAssam,” the MP wrote on her Twitter handle.

    It may be mentioned that a total of 57,51,938 people and 45,37,171 animals have been affected across 114 revenue circles in 29 out of 33 districts in the state as on July 17th, 2019.  Keeping in view of the flood situation in the state, the Assam Government on July 16th, 2019 issued a red alert in Assam.

    Bollywood actor Dia Mirza also appealed to the people to help in the rehabilitation of the stranded people and the wildlife rescue.

    Internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain, who hails from Goalpara district of Assam, has also called for donation to help the flood-affected victims. “90% of Animal Habitat is under flood water means the rest which also belonged to them would have been 100 times More than the Current 10%. I am dumbfounded to see the plight of our people, Animals every year since, I guess, I was born,” tweeted the actor of  Life of Pi fame.

    In a series of tweets, Adil shared that his mother has taken shelter in his brother’s house due to flood. “Thank god and my brother that his house is on higher grounds. But not all Mothers are as lucky. So yes, apart from receiving and sending essentials to the needy ones, I rather pray to the rain Gods to slow down a little now,” the actor said on Twitter.

    Film director Shekhar Kapur too took out time and expressed concern in regard to the large scale devastation due to the flood in Assam. “Surprised that Assam floods don’t dominate our news channels more? Or is Urban India a separate nation?” Kapur wrote on his Twitter handle. Assam Tourism Brand Ambassador Priyanka Chopra is “devastated” and took to Twitter to express her concern about the current situation in Assam.  “Extremely devasted by all the news coming in from #Assam and other parts of India. It’s heartbreaking to read about the displacement and loss of life. My prayers with those affected. Please donate at https://cm.assam.gov.in/relieffund.php  and https://donate.oxfamindia.org/assam-floods-2018 …,” Priyanka wrote on Twitter.
