The Oboro Suraksha Samiti, a non-Bodo group has come down heavily against the Bodoland People’s Front(BPF), an ally of the incumbent BJP after the latter’s youth wing workers allegedly attacked a supporter of Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania in Baksa district of Assam.
The incident took place at Nayabasti village in Dhamdhama Tehsil of the district on September 18th, 2019 when the Kokarajhar MP was here at the village for a programme.
According to reports, one Nipon Das had attended the MP’s programme and later a group of BPF youth wing workers allegedly intercepted Das at the Naya Basti Chowk Bazar area and charged him with varied questions. After he could not give a “satisfying” explanation the group allegedly attacked him, leaving him with serious injuries.
“We strongly condemn this incident and it is quite evident that the BPF is scared with the rise of Naba Kumar Sarania and losing their ground in BTC. We are positive that our party will win the upcoming 2020 Bodoland Territorial Council elections and have a stronghold,” said a member of the Oboro Suraksha Samiti.
The non-bodo group further alleged that despite reporting the incident to the police, they denied to register an FIR.
It may be mentioned that eyeing the 2020 general election of the BTC, MP Sarania on September 16th, 2019 announced that he has decided to launch a new political party – BTAD Army – on September 22nd, 2019.
It is reported that, the BPF, BJP and United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) are likely to forge an alliance to contest the general election.
