    Meet Manipur’s ‘Greta’ Who Is On A Mission To Fight Against Climate Change

    Licypriya Kangujam aims to travel the world and campaign, sensitize the public on climate change and take part in growing millions of trees

    A Class-II student from Manipur, Licypriya Kangujam has apparently been grabbing the headlines for her fierce movement against climate change and disaster risk reduction. The 7-year-old has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Members of Parliament to pass the law on climate change on priority.

    Often addressed as ‘India’s Greta Thunberg’, Licypriya was recently awarded the prestigious ‘World Children Peace Prize 2019’ by Global Peace Index, Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), Maldives. Greta is a Swedish teenager who is credited with raising global awareness of the risks posed by global warming and climate change.

    This green activist was also the youngest delegate at the 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) which concluded on September 13th, 2019.

    As part of her movement, she has been invited to 16 countries so far. She aims to travel the world and campaign, sensitize the public on climate change and take part in growing millions of trees.

    In April this year, Lucipriya addressed the podium in the Sixth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2019 at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. She spoke at length on the theme “Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies”.

    Licypriya also worked as Child Disaster Risks Reduction Advocate in International Youth Committee (IYC). Last year, she spoke at the Asian Ministerial  Conference on Disaster Risks Reduction in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
