Meet Jebin Kausar From Assam’s Hojai, The Star Of A Show By Akshay Kumar

Dabaka: She defines grit and determination. Probably, one of the best examples of ‘survival of the fittest’. 19-year-old Jebin Kausar, a resident of Murajhar in Hojai district of Assam, has defied all odds and stood up to fight every challenge with all her might and zeal.

And this ‘never-say-die’ zeal of hers was rightly noticed by Bollywood’s superstar Akshay Kumar. At an early age, Jebin lost the ability to move both her hands but the fighter in her was alive. She didn’t wait for a miracle and instead, learnt to write and draw with her feet.

2017 was the turnaround year for Jebin and her family. Akshay took note of the girl after the local channels aired her story when she scored well in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class 10 examination. Jebin wrote her HSLC examination papers with her feet.

This year, Akshay presented her story in a show called Short stories of a #NewIndia with Akshay Kumar. The show was initiated by Piramal Foundation and partnered by Viacom18 Pictures. In the show, Jebin was interviewed alongside her father and brother.

Speaking to Time8, Jebin said, “It was a pleasure to meet Akshay sir and he was a great host. We stayed with him for two days at his residence and he encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming an IPS Officer. I am now determined to work towards achieving my goal.”

Jebin is presently a student of Higher Secondary final year at the Mariam Ajmal Women’s College in Hojai.

When asked about her inspiration, she promptly replied, “My father. He neither treated me like a burden nor was ashamed of me. He always encouraged me to push my limits. My father is my inspiration, my hero. He taught me to believe in my dreams.”
