Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Bats For Bihu Tourism, Appeals People To Buy Local Products

Every state and religion in our country has its own festivals: Prime Minister Modi

As the entire country is celebrating Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 27th, 2019 stressed the need to focus on ‘Festival Tourism’. While addressing the nation during his monthly radio programme Mann ki Baat, Modi said that India is known as the land of festivals and we must try to popularise our festivals by inviting people from other states and countries to join the colourful festivities.

“India has immense potential to explore the ‘festival tourism’ as it can attract people globally. We must try to popularise our festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Onam, Pongal or Bihu. Every state and religion in our country has its own festivals. We can invite people from other states and countries to join the festivities,” Modi said.

Assam celebrates three types of Bihu – Rongali or Bohag Bihu is observed in April, Kongali or Kati Bihu is observed in October, and Bhogali or Magh Bihu observed in January. The Rongali Bihu is the most important and colourful of the three. Rongali Bihu celebrates the arrival of spring and signifies the time of harvest.

The Prime Minister also urged the people of the nation to buy local products like Khadi and visit at least 15 tourist spots in the country.
