Manipur’s youngest ace shuttler Maisnam Meiraba Luwang has yet again earned accolades for the state after he swifty clinched the U-19 singles semifinals of the 28th Smt. Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Junior Ranking Prize Money Badminton Tournament at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula on August 18th, 2019 evening.

Junior World No 15 Maisnam Meiraba Luwang, top-seeded at this tournament, was unstoppable in his 21-12, 21-11 demolition of second seed Sathish Kumar K. The in-form Manipur shuttler, who won the White Night Junior last month, was challenged only once in six matches this week, where he dropped a game to eighth seed Sarath D in the quarter-finals.

The 16-year-old is coached by his father Maisnam Romesh Luwang, professional coach with the Manipur Sports Department in Imphal. After the rigorous training at Imphal under his father, junior Luwang took admission at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore.

He bagged his first international medal in Israel in 2013 and went on to become the National U-13 champion in sub-junior nationals at Cuttack.

In girls’ singles, sixth seed Aditi Bhatt showed steely nerves and resilience in her 22-20, 13-21, 22-20 marathon win over the top seed Unnati Bisht that needed 1 hour 18 minutes to complete. This was the second consecutive three-game match that the feisty girl played following her 21-15, 14-21, 21-16 win over seventh seed Aashi Rawat in the semi-finals.’
