Man Thrashed On Suspicion Of Being Cattle Thief In Dhekiajuli

The group of enraged villagers caught him, vandalized his vehicle and thrashed him black and blue

A suspected cattle thief was brutally thrashed by a mob in Assam’s Sonitpur district in the wee hours of September 21st, 2019, police said.

The incident took place in Kochgaon of Thelamara. A man not being able to find his cows in the cowshed went out to search for them. When he saw his two cows being fastened in a mini carrier van, immediately raised a hue and cry to alert other villagers.

As villagers assembled in huge numbers, the two cattle thieves fled from the spot leaving behind the driver of the carrier van. The group of enraged villagers caught him, vandalized his vehicle and thrashed him black and blue.

When the situation went out of control, Thelamara Police reached the spot to rescue the driver, identified as Sahed Ali. The cattle owner has meanwhile lodged an FIR against Ali, who is a resident of Doi Pam, Dalgaon of Darrang district. Ali has been arrested and is presently in custody of Thelamara Police.

“I did not know anything about their plan. They told me that they need my van to bring cattle. They hired my van for Rs 1000,” Ali said.
