    Lovlina, Jamuna Sign Off With Bronze In World Boxing Championships

    Debutant Manju Rani created history as she booked her place in the final

    After Mary Kom, Assam’s Jamuna Boro and Lovlina Borgohain had to settle for bronze at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia on October 12th, 2019.

    In the intense semi-final, debutant Jamuna lost 5:0 to Huang Hsiao-Wen of Taiwan in the 54kg category. In an interview with TOI, Jamuna said that all her prized medals, money earned till date is for her mother Nirmali Boro who sold vegetables to fund her training.

    Lovlina lost to China’s Yang Liu in the 69 kg category in a split decision of 2:3 to end her campaign at the AIBA World Boxing Championship. She is a bronze medalist from the 2018 edition.

    On the other hand, debutant Manju Rani created history as she booked her place in the final. She becomes the first woman to do so after 18 years. Kom reached the finals way back in 2001.

    Rani defeated Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat 4-1 in her semifinal bout. She will face Russia’s second seed Ekaterina Paltceva in the summit clash on October 13th, 2019.
