    Live Updates: Assam Budget 2020-21

    Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 6th, 2020 presented the last full-fledged budget before the term of the government expires in 2021.

    Like the previous year, the minister presented the budget in digital format.

    Taking to Twitter, the minister said, “All these years your unwavering support and affection have strengthened me. In our last four Budgets of Assam Government, we’ve always addressed the aspirations of all class, and especially the underserved and underprivileged. Assam Budget 2020 shall be no different.”

    The minister said that the budget will be a boon for 30 to 40 lakh families and it will include such schemes that will take the State into a new path of progress. He also stated that the budget will touch children, women, physically and mentally challenged ones, senior citizens and all other people.

    05:04 pm: Government to provide free sanitary napkins to girls studying in Classes 6 to 12 in government and government-aided schools. Each girl will be provided with 18 beltless sanitary napkins per month.

    Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar was launched in 2018. It was an attempt to address the issues of ‘weekly cash cycle’ that the Tea Garden workers are trapped.

    03:22 pm: A sum of Rs 1000 Crore will be allocated for ‘Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Yojana’ which will enable our youth to get actively engaged in various economic activities without leaving their native places.

    03:17 pm: Government to provide free electricity to all households whose monthly electricity consumption is up to 30 units, considered sufficient to support basic electricity consumption needs of a household, like light bulbs etc

    02:48 pm: Government to provide free rice to all the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act which will immediately benefit an additional 53 Lakh families.

    02:44 pm: A total of 18 flagship schemes have been introduced in the Budget. “The 18 Flagship Schemes which are better known as the “Ashtadash Mukutor Unnoyonee Maala” have laid the foundation for not just growth and development but also equity and justice for the people of Assam since 2016”, Himanta said.
