Amid the lockdown over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the excise departments of Assam and Meghalaya decided to reopen the liquor shops for a few hours.
In Assam, the liquor shops, wholesale warehouses, bottling plants, distilleries and breweries will reopen from April 13th, 2020 for seven hours daily.
On the other hand, liquor shops and warehouses will remain open from 9 am to 4 pm in Meghalaya.
Assam has reported 29 cases of coronavirus infection and one death. No positive COVID-19 case has been reported in Meghalaya.
The officials of both the States said social distancing of at least one metre between customers, staff, cough etiquette and hand hygiene will strictly have to be maintained by the liquor shops.
“IMFL ‘OFF’/CS ‘OFF’ shop shall remain open from 10 am to 5 pm on the permitted days. Shops may work with bare minimum staff and provide hand sanitizers to customers and staff while handling the bottles and cash,” the order by the Assam excise department said.
For transport of liquor consignment, vehicle passes shall be obtained from the respective Deputy Commissioner of the district.
