    Akhil Gogoi Undergoes Check-Up At GMCH, Says Poor Food Quality Served In Jail

    Akhil Gogoi fell sick inside the jail and been suffering from severe backache, gastric pain, urology problem and several other ailments

    Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi was brought to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for check-ups on March 11th, 2020.

    Gogoi is currently lodged in the Guwahati central jail following his arrest in December during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement in the state.

    He fell sick inside the jail and been suffering from severe backache, gastric pain, urology problem and several other ailments for over a week now.

    “It is only due to the intervention of the court and media that I am receiving treatment today. The quality of food provide in jail is of low standard due to which several inmates have taken ill,” Gogoi said while speaking to media at the premises of the GMCH.

    Earlier, the KMSS leader’s Gitashree Tamuly moved a special NIA court seeking its intervention and complained that Gogoi was denied proper treatment inside the jail.

    The NIA court sought a report from the government on March 3rd, 2020. On March 4th, 2020, a medical team visited was sent to jail on March 4th, 2020.

    Gogoi and a few of his associates were arrested on December 12th, 2019, after violence broke out during an anti-CAA agitation. The Assam government had handed over his case to the NIA alleging that he had Maoist links.
